Sand-bottom breaks for a first lesson, reef for everyone else. Boards go on the back of a scooter.

Kuta is a town you can walk out into, and the south coast begins where the town ends. Surf before breakfast, a bay you have never heard of after lunch, dinner back here with sand still in your bag.
Kuta is the middle of South Lombok and it is busy the way a town is busy. Warungs, coffee places, board rental, a market, people who live here. You get what you need without a shuttle bus, and the coast road out of town does the rest.
Atrium sits on Jalan Raya Kuta, 500 metres from the sand. Lombok International Airport is about 22 kilometres away, roughly 30 minutes by car, and the Mandalika Circuit is about 5 kilometres east, around 10 minutes. Everything below starts from that door and ends back at it.

Kuta, Tanjung Aan, Selong Belanak and the bays nobody has named yet.
Soft sand bottoms for a first lesson, reef for people who already know.
Warungs, coffee, beach clubs. Most of it walkable, none of it formal.
Snorkelling, diving and freediving, off the south coast and the Gilis.
Rinjani, waterfalls, rice fields and villages, once the coast lets you go.
All of them start at the front door and end back here. Some are ten minutes down the road. One of them needs a guide and a spare night.

The second highest volcano in Indonesia, with a lake in the crater. Go with a guide and give it the nights it asks for.

Turtles off the Gilis, coral closer to home. Boats go from the beach and come back for lunch.

Benang Kelambu in the middle of the island, Sendang Gile in the north. Both are a drive and both are green the whole way up.

Warm water, no tank, one long breath. There are schools on the island that will take you from nothing.

Flat along the coast, steep the moment you turn inland. Rice fields, villages and a headwind on the way home.

Pick a bay, take a mat, stay until the light goes. This is the one most people come back for.
Nothing booked and nothing rushed. This is roughly what a day here turns into once you stop planning it.
Coffee from the café downstairs, board on the scooter, in the water before the wind finds it.
Back for the pool and something to eat while the sets fall apart without you.
Warung dinner in town, then the roof for the last of the light.
Boat off the beach, out to the reef, masks on before anyone has really woken up.
Lunch with sand in it, then a bay to lie in until the boat wants to leave.
The bathhouse below the pools, then dinner under the canopy.
Out of town on the coast road, then left, into the hills, until the sea is gone.
A waterfall, rice fields, and lunch in a village that was not on the plan.
Back late, dust everywhere, straight into the pool.
Make Atrium your home base for exploring South Lombok.
